Description

AQUA BOND is a synthetic-rubber latex admixture for improving the adhesion and performance of cement-based mortars, screeds, renders and bonding slurries. The reference product is a stable water dispersion of an SBR (styrene-butadiene rubber) synthetic elastomer with a low glass transition temperature. The elastomer provides elasticity and ageing stability. When added to cement and aggregate mixes it improves adhesion, plasticity, thixotropy, water retention and workability.

Stable SBR (styrene-butadiene rubber) synthetic elastomer water dispersion
Significantly enhances adhesion to substrates (>2.0 MPa per EN 1542)
Higher compressive strength (up to 33 MPa at 28 days) and flexural strengths
Higher abrasion resistance and increased impermeability
Superior freeze-thaw endurance and ageing stability
Enhanced chemical resistance to diluted acids, saline solutions and oils
Adhesion to substrate >2.0 MPa (EN 1542, 28 days)

Directions for Use

1

Substrate Preparation

Substrate must be solid, compact and clean. Remove loose material, dust, concrete crusts, oil, form-release agents and paint by suitable cleaning methods. Thoroughly wet the substrate, leaving no excess water.

2

Mixing

Dilute Aqua Bond with water according to the selected application ratio. Add the solution to the mixer, then add cement and aggregates. Mix for 2–3 minutes until smooth and even; do not over-mix. Setting time is not significantly different from normal mixes; workability is usually slightly longer.

3

Curing

In warm or windy conditions, cure carefully to prevent rapid evaporation and plastic-shrinkage cracking. Protect or damp-cure the surface during the first hours.

4

Cleaning

Clean tools with water before setting begins. After hardening, mechanical cleaning is required.

Recommendations & Workability Guidelines

Do not use pure Aqua Bond as a primer or slurry; mix with Portland cement or another specified cementitious binder.
Do not use below +5°C or above +40°C.
Protect fresh applications from excessively rapid drying in hot or windy conditions.
Use aggregate particle sizes appropriate to the application thickness and observe the required water/cement ratio.
If using a concrete mixer, do not mix for more than 3 minutes to avoid excessive air entrainment.
